Edgar Ybarra is a two-time Emmy Award–winning broadcast television photojournalist, editor, and independent filmmaker with more than two decades of experience in visual storytelling. His broadcast work has appeared on NBCUniversal Telemundo, CBS affiliate KOLD News 13, and NBC affiliate KVOA News 4 Tucson, where he worked as a news photojournalist producing and editing television news stories that informed and engaged local audiences.
Beyond broadcast journalism, Ybarra has built a parallel career as an independent filmmaker, working as a writer, director, director of photography, and editor on narrative short and feature films. His work reflects a deep commitment to cinematic storytelling and a hands-on approach to filmmaking, often taking projects from concept through final post-production himself.
Raised in the Los Angeles area, Ybarra’s interest in filmmaking began early, experimenting with video using his father’s VHS camera—an early spark that evolved into a lifelong pursuit of visual storytelling across both broadcast and narrative forms.
Today, Ybarra continues to develop and produce narrative films while exploring emerging creative tools and technologies. At the core of his work is a commitment to telling compelling stories—particularly those that illuminate the underrepresented experiences and perspectives of people of color. With an unwavering dedication to storytelling, Ybarra has no plans of slowing down and remains committed to creating films that give voice to stories that deserve to be seen and heard, continuing this pursuit against any and all odds.
